It's a warm summer night, the sun has gone down and you are getting ready for another night, just lounging on the couch ,scrolling through your Instagram, while your favorite youtube vlog streams in the background.
You come across a photo that catches your eye, you scroll up, then down again ...wondering if you should double click so your fingers can approve what your eyes just did. The human figure you are looking at ,serves as a breath of fresh air to your regularly scheduled programmimg ,so you venture unto their page. You know them,they know you...at least you guys have exchange occasional "heys', "hello's" at one point or the other. You have always thought they were a blessing to your eyes but never really payed attention ...till this moment. You are on your phone,looking at this person...looking like as we say "a snack".... even a "whole meal"! yasssssssss !!!!!
You almost chuckle at the thought of you guys even being together, however, you allow your mind to "go there".You realize more and more that the thought you had ,could in fact become a reality. So you do what most 21st century youths do. You go into FBI mode,you begin to investigate,their friends list, most importantly,
Are they in a relationship?!!
Scrolling through their photos,being very careful as to not double click any more photos,because that my friend is indeed, STALKER ALERT 101. We do not ,I repeat do not, do that, it ent cute!
If you were once sleepy,that is totally gone because your fingers reveal what your heart needed;- They are in fact single and up for grabs,lol
Now what? ..... so you do either of two things... you hit up your closest friend and send them a link to "New potential bae's profile", you know ,so they can begin to intercede on your behalf . Or you decide to do more investigation and check their Facebook, Twitter and even Linkedn profile... for you extra extra stalkers lol. Imma stick to the first option, so you message the bestie " Hey sis , check this "dude" out".... she replies " God-damn...who that?he is a whole meal sis"....you reply..."I know right, he is single too...you know him from____",she replies "oh yeah! I'm here for it sis ,he is cute".
Now ,you have your bestie's approval its time to proceed.Its important that from here on out,the next time you see this person,they are no longer going to be whatever their parents named them,to you they are "potential bae"and in some instances you may even try to ensure that they know ,that you are interested in them.
You eagerly await the next time you see them, we will call them (potential bae) "P.B", for short. You have prayed about it, hoping God doesn't stop you in your tracks just yet. Because the heart wants what it wants ,and up to this point,you are sure even God is happy with your "choice".
You plan on wearing your best the next time you believe you are going to see them! Spraying that new perfume or cologne , smelling right. And you picture the moment clearly in your head. You will turn, P.B turns, your eyes make four and you both smile at each other.Perfect right!
Instead, what really happens, you are yawning,looking like you really just want to be home after a long day,hair is a mess, your makeup is near gone and BOOM! Potential Bae bounces into you because you both happen to be waiting for transportation home ,at the same time!!!!
You act as casual as you can, silently wishing the ground below would open up. You say "hey" ,saying their name like ___ right? ,almost like you dont already know their full name, including middle name, their parents name and exactly where they live . They say hey back and you wish at this moment the butterflies in your chest would stop bumping into each other .Your head is dizzy and your brain forgets how to breathe right. If you are me, you will also attempt to move away,while maybe dropping your bag or phone because clearly your hands forgot it's purpose and your feet forgot how to walk as well. You manage to pull yourself together for 2 seconds, to let out "have a great night",with your best smile,while cringing.P.B replies "have a goodnight as well,get home safely". You sit in your ride home and replay everything that just happened and sink your face into your hands,realizing your little fairytale is going to take alot more work than you imagined!
SO NATIONS! Y'all want the whole story right? like tell all the juice! maybe I will ......maybe I wont ..but for now ,I'll say this.
It's still a work in progress. I have also seen this play off time and time and time again in our generation.I mean having "potential bae's" that we social media pursue all works ..it honestly does..but my question to you today is this:-
As a christian do you believe that God has a soul mate for you?
This has been by far my most requested blog...and I will indulge... even sharing my own truth going forward...but as a female...to my female readers... should you pursue a guy?
Most importantly, Nations,to the saints and the aints and you all better comment...... what do you believe should be the next step in this story.? If you were to continue it.... where will it go.?what will it look like.?what are the qualities that should determine pursuit in the first place for our single men and women? It is looks?, common purpose? financial status?
If what we desire is this idea of a "Godly marriage sister saints"...... what defines your 'BOAZ' as the church folks say?
I'm not saying the way we 'date' and even collab today is by no means wrong...I love it ,I think its unconventional ,but when you want soul food...sometimes ...it takes going to the one who knows what's best for your soul.
